Custom Herbal Tincture Formulas — Blended and Shipped Directly to Your Patients
What Are Herbal Tinctures?
Herbal tinctures are concentrated liquid extracts of herbs produced by macerating or percolating plant material in a solvent — typically a carefully calibrated combination of food-grade ethanol and water.
The alcohol acts as both a highly effective extractant and a natural preservative, drawing out and stabilising the full spectrum of active constituents present in the herb.
Tinctures are one of the oldest, most established, and most clinically respected forms of herbal medicine preparation, with a long history of use across western herbal medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, naturopathy, and integrative medicine.
They offer rapid absorption, long shelf life, precise flexible dosing, and excellent suitability for custom blending — making them one of the most versatile formats available to modern herbal medicine practitioners.
From Raw Herb to Tincture — Our Production Process
Every tincture batch follows our rigorous five-step quality-controlled production process.
Sourcing
Raw herbs are sourced from certified farms and established supplier partnerships. Every herb is selected for authenticity, quality, and optimal harvest timing.
Quality Testing
Incoming herbs are quarantined and rigorously tested for identity, potency, heavy metals, pesticide residues, and microbial contamination.
Maceration or Percolation
Prepared herbs are macerated or percolated in precisely calibrated food-grade ethanol and water solvent at the correct herb-to-solvent ratio.
Pressing, Filtering & Standardisation
The liquid extract is pressed, filtered, and standardised to the correct herb-to-solvent ratio and alcohol content.
Final Testing & Approval
The finished tincture is tested for potency, purity, alcohol content, and microbial safety before approval for dispensing.
Why Practitioners Choose Tinctures
Six key clinical advantages that make tinctures a preferred format for professional herbal prescribing.
Fast Absorption
Liquid tinctures are absorbed rapidly by the body, particularly when taken sublingually. This makes them an excellent choice for patients who require fast-acting herbal support.
No Preparation Required
Patients simply measure their dose and take it directly or dilute in a small amount of water. There is no dissolving, decocting, or preparation involved.
Flexible & Precise Dosing
Tincture doses are measured in millilitres, allowing for fine adjustments to suit individual patient needs, body weight, age, and sensitivity.
Custom Blending
Multiple individual herb tinctures are blended into a single formula bottle at your specified ratios, giving practitioners full control over therapeutic composition.
Long Shelf Life
The alcohol content of tinctures acts as a natural preservative, giving them a shelf life of typically 3–5 years when stored correctly — ideal for long-term programmes.
Broad Clinical Applicability
Tinctures are widely used across TCM, western herbal medicine, and naturopathic practice, making them suitable for practitioners from multiple traditions.

How Patients Take Their Tincture Formula
Shake
Shake the tincture bottle gently before each use to ensure the formula is evenly mixed.
Measure
Measure the prescribed dose in millilitres using the dropper or measuring cap provided.
Take
Take the dose directly under the tongue and hold for 30–60 seconds before swallowing for fastest absorption, or add to a small amount of water or diluted juice and drink immediately.
Timing
Take at the times directed by your practitioner — typically 2–3 times daily, with or without food as advised.
Store
Replace the cap tightly after each use and store as directed on the label.
Tip: Taking tinctures sublingually (under the tongue) maximises absorption speed. Diluting in water is equally effective and may be preferred by patients sensitive to the taste or alcohol.
Patient dosing instruction cards can be included with every tincture order. Contact us to arrange.
Tincture Dosing for Practitioners
Clinical dosing guidelines for professional tincture prescribing.
Dose Calculation
Tincture dosing is calculated in millilitres per herb per dose, expressed as a daily total divided across 2–3 administrations.
Formula Builder
The Herb Dispenser formula builder allows practitioners to set precise blend ratios and total dose volumes for each tincture formula.
Typical Dose Ranges
Individual herb tincture doses typically range from 1ml to 5ml per herb per dose depending on the herb, its strength, and clinical indication.
Daily Formula Doses
Total daily formula doses commonly range from 5ml to 15ml depending on formula complexity and patient needs.
Special Populations
Paediatric and elderly dosing adjustments can be made directly in the formula builder using standard dose reduction guidelines.
Tincture Strength Ratios
Tincture strength ratios (e.g. 1:3, 1:5) are specified for each herb in the catalogue — factor these into your dosing calculations.

A comprehensive guide to alcohol in tinctures — addressing the most common practitioner and patient concerns with complete transparency.
Food-grade ethanol is used in tincture production because it is the most effective solvent for extracting the full spectrum of active constituents from plant material, including both water-soluble and fat-soluble compounds. It also acts as a natural preservative, giving tinctures their long shelf life without the need for artificial additives.
The alcohol content of individual herb tinctures typically ranges from 25% to 60% ABV in the concentrated form, depending on the herb and the extraction requirements. [Client to confirm actual ABV ranges.]
When diluted to the prescribed dose in water, the actual amount of alcohol consumed per dose is minimal. For example, a 5ml dose of a 40% ABV tincture diluted in 100ml of water contains approximately 2ml of pure alcohol — comparable to a very small amount of fermented food. [Client to confirm example figures.]
For patients with alcohol sensitivities, intolerances, liver conditions, religious restrictions, or who are in recovery, tinctures may not be appropriate in their standard form. Practitioners should assess each patient individually. Alcohol-free or glycerite alternatives may be available — contact our team to discuss options. [Client to confirm alcohol-free availability.]
Alcohol content should always be carefully assessed when prescribing tinctures for pregnant patients or children. Consult current clinical guidelines and assess on a case-by-case basis. Low-alcohol or alcohol-free alternatives may be more appropriate in these cases.
We are committed to full transparency about our tincture formulations. Contact us with any questions about alcohol content, solvent ratios, or alternative formats.
Tincture Storage Guidelines
Temperature
Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Sealing
Keep bottle tightly capped when not in use to prevent evaporation of alcohol.
Refrigeration
Do not refrigerate unless specifically instructed on the label.
Safety
Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the label.
Shelf Life
Alcohol-preserved tinctures have a shelf life of typically 3–5 years when stored correctly.
Odor Protection
Avoid storing near strong-smelling substances as tinctures can absorb odours through the cap.
